Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 16:38:02 GMT

Amy LindgrenIf you’re a reader, then you already know that books come in all stripes and flavors. Whatever issue you’re working through, whatever curiosity has overtaken you, or whatever hour you’re trying to kill, there will be a book out there somewhere to help.As someone who gobbles up books indiscriminately, I have a lot of random items in my collection. Although I do have an e-reader, somehow the print experience appeals to my tactile nature. Those can come after the new year, when we all get serious again about being serious.FictionWe’ll start with the fiction, which is always fun. I won’t burden you with extensive descriptions, since that dims some of the joy of discovery. A few of these are old, so you may have to check online for a batt...

The Hotline is delighted to provide Pac-12 fans with a regular dive into the recruiting process through the eyes and ears of Brandon Huffman, the Seattle-based national recruiting editor for 247Sports. He submitted the following report on Dec. 21 …The early signing period is a wrap, thus completing most of the heavy lifting in the 2023-24 recruiting cycle.Despite the transfer portal wrestling away much of the December intrigue from the high school recruiting process, the talent still has to come from somewhere. So let’s take a look at the Pac-12’s biggest winners and losers from three important days.Loser: Colorado. Yes, we know Coach Deion Sanders wants to focus on the transfer portal. But only six high school signees? That won’t cut it, no matter how many transfers are brought in. Convincing five-star offensive tackle Jordan Seaton to sign his letter-of-intent saved the Buffaloes’ class from being a complete and utter disaster. But even with Seaton, a produc...

The Pac-12’s postseason fate won’t be sealed for three months, but decades of data allow us to sketch a gloomy outlook.A clear correlation exists between the Pac-12’s performance in non-conference games and the number of NCAA Tournament bids secured on Selection Sunday.Only six times this century has the Pac-12 received fewer than four NCAA bids; each time, it won less than 70 percent of its non-conference games.Meanwhile, the Pac-12 has received at least five NCAA bids on 10 occasions; in nine of those instances, it won at least 70 percent of the non-conference games. The current win rate? A paltry 66 percent. So start preparing for a modest bid total on Selection Sunday, regardless of the specific order of finish in the conference race.To the projections …(NET rankings through Friday)1.
