Oregon State loses Jonathan Smith: Our candidate list for the Beavers as their search begins and uncertainty swirls The prodigal son is gone. Oregon State coach Jonathan Smith accepted Michigan State’s contract offer on Saturday, one day after his alma mater suffered a season-ending loss to Oregon that felt funereal on multiple levels:— Their last regular-season game in the Pac-12.— Their last scheduled rivalry game against the Ducks.— Their last game with Smith on the sideline. This is not a gut punch, folks. It’s a right cross to an exposed jaw as the Beavers scramble to secure their future following the implosion of the Pac-12. Is Oregon State rebuilding the conference? Will it eventually join the Mountain West? How deep are the resources? How thin is the roster? It’s brutal timing in every regard. Candidates for the position will have a slew of questions the school simply cannot answer. That said, we view this as the wrong move for Smith — not because he’s leaving OSU, which is understandable given the uncertainty, but because Michigan State is the...

San Jose Sharks prospects have stellar games, with one starring on “Shoresy Night” SAN JOSE – The San Jose Sharks front office and scouting staff had to have liked what they saw from 2023 first-round draft picks Will Smith and Quentin Musty on Friday night, not to mention their seasons in general.Smith, selected fourth overall by the Sharks in June, had three assists for No. 2 Boston College in its 6-1 non-conference win over No. 18 Notre Dame on Friday. Teacher uses jazz to explore California history, race and culture (BCN) -- The first thing Guillermo Tejeda does when he visits a new school is hunt for the piano. At most schools, the teacher finds a dusty old instrument, out of tune, stashed away in a dark closet. The cobwebs tell him all he needs to know about how little arts education those students have been getting. His go-to technique to get them more jazzed about learning is to tickle the ivories, make that piano come back to life."I'll bring it out, dust it off. I'll bring students into the auditorium and I'll do lessons there," said Tejeda, a fourth grade teacher at Wadsworth Elementary in hardscrabble South Central Los Angeles. "I'm telling you, when I bring in song, when I bring music and performance into the classroom, the students light up in a way that really creates a meaningful experience for them."
